GBBR cycles through Brisbane

30 April 2018

Bicycle Queensland’s Great Brisbane Bike Ride (GBBR) cycled through Brisbane on Sunday, raising much needed funds for Diabetes Queensland.

We helped facilitate a traffic-free ride by closing sections of the entrance and exit ramps onto the Inner City Bypass to cars.

Cycling enthusiast and Transurban Engineer Emma-Lee Wood, completed the challenge for the third year in a row and said “The ability to cycle down the Inner City Bypass gives everyone of varying cycling ability and confidence the chance to take part knowing they can complete the course safely.”

The ride was Queensland’s biggest event for Bike Week, with this year’s theme ‘Bikeways build better communities’.

Pledge to drive so others survive in May

30 April 2018

Here at Transurban Queensland road safety is in our DNA and keeping you and our other customers safe on our go via network is our key priority. We are committed to supporting road safety initiatives that aim to change driver behaviour and encourage safer driving.

This year we are again proud to support Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group’s Yellow Ribbon National Road Safety Week, running from 30 April to 6 May, which honours those who have lost their lives on Australian roads and pledges to make roads safer for all motorists.

Public Affairs Manager Queensland Ruth Moody, said supporting this great initiative aligns with Transurban’s commitment to road safety and our Drive Safe campaign, which was launched in 2013.

“Through Drive Safe we partner with key organisations like SARAH to help make a tangible difference to road safety in Queensland. We are also supporting Fatality Free Friday on 25 May, which is an event that encourages drivers to consciously think about road safety and safe driving to achieve zero deaths for just one day.”

Ms Moody said the go via network team is passionate about promoting road safety so that we all get home safely to our family and friends each day.

“To promote the SARAH Yellow Ribbon campaign this year, the iconic Sir Leo Hielscher (Gateway) Bridges will again be lit yellow, and various road safety messages will be published on our electronic roadside signage across the go via network, on our websites and will also be broadcast via Twitter.”

“With hundreds of thousands of motorists travelling across the go via network daily, this is one way we can spread road safety messages and raise awareness effectively through the community.”

Legacy and Transurban Queensland Youth Program inspires future leaders

26 April 2018

Through a unique partnership with Legacy Brisbane, we’re helping to make a positive difference to the lives of young Australians who have lost a parent who has served our nation.

To mark Anzac day, Transurban Queensland was delighted to announce a $100,000 commitment to support the 2018 Legacy Australia Youth Development Program.

The program provides Legacy Youth with an experiential learning environment to develop their personal and leadership skills and promote personal growth and self-discipline in a supported and challenging environment.
On Tuesday 24 April, Legacy and Transurban announced the official Youth Ambassador for 2018, Shaira Keys, and inducted and trained 14 young Australians as its 2018 Youth Leaders to prepare them to guide the next generation. Youth Leaders attended a retreat to engage in the fundamentals of leadership, hear from inspirational speakers, and learn skills to help them empower and inspire other Legacy kids and young people.

Transurban Queensland Group Executive Sue Johnson said Transurban Queensland was proud to support the 2018 Youth Development Program as part of its commitment to donate 1c from every toll on Legacy Way to Legacy Australia.

“In partnership with the Brisbane City Council, Transurban Queensland is proud to have made a long term commitment to support Legacy families by donating 1c from every toll from the Legacy Way tunnel to Legacy, a minimum of $100,000 each year,” Mrs Johnson said.

“This year we’re delighted to be partnering with Legacy to deliver the Youth Development Program and help make a real difference to the lives of Legacy youth, helping them develop strong leadership skills and overcome personal, career and education challenges.

“At Transurban our vision is to strengthen communities through transport, so we’re very proud that through this partnership we can help make a positive difference to the lives of Legacy families in the communities along our network.”

Legacy Brisbane CEO Brendan Cox, an ex-serviceman who has served on two tours to Afghanistan, explained that while ANZAC Day is important to all Australians, it had special significance to the families of soldiers who didn’t make it home or returned bearing the scars of war.

“ANZAC Day is a reminder of just how much these families have given up for our nation, and a day to remember their loved ones who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” Mr Cox said.

“Legacy’s vision, as part of its promise, is to ensure no financial nor social disadvantage to the families of our nation’s fallen and incapacitated veterans.

“Since 1923, Legacy has been delivering upon this promise through activities such as the Legacy Brisbane Youth Leadership Program, but this is only possible through the generosity of our corporate partners, like Transurban. “

Legacy provides services to Australian families suffering financially and socially after the death of a spouse or parent during or after their defence force service.  The organisation currently cares for over 90,000 widows and 1900 children and dependence throughout Australia.

Helping families in need this holiday season

11 December 2017

Transurban Queensland has proudly partnered with Australia’s CEO Challenge to support women and children spending this holiday season living in crisis accommodation as a result of domestic and family violence.

This month, Transurban employees filled 55 school backpacks with stationary, gifts, lunchboxes and other items to help families in need prepare for the new school year. Australia’s CEO Challenge will deliver the backpacks in time for Christmas to children aged between 5 and 14 years old who are temporarily living across five independent refuges around Brisbane.

Australia’s CEO Challenge Partnerships Coordinator Lorraine Adams said Christmas was one of the busiest times for domestic violence shelters.

“We are so grateful for this donation and the ongoing commitment Transurban Queensland has made to this important issue,” Ms Adams said.

“By contributing these backpacks, Transurban Queensland is helping to bring some normality back to the lives of children and families who are likely to be feeling extremely confused and unsettled.”

Transurban Queensland Public Affairs Manager Ruth Moody said Transurban was committed to supporting families in need in the community.

“We’re proud to be supporting this important cause and helping to bring some joy to families who will be spending the holidays in crisis accommodation,” Mrs Moody said.

“Our employees have come together to donate hundreds of much-needed school resources to help families prepare for the new school year.”

Transurban Queensland supports Convoy for Kids

30 October 2017

Transurban Queensland is proud to support the Brisbane Convoy for Kids on Saturday 4 November to help raise much-needed funds for Hummingbird House, Queensland’s only children’s hospice.

The convoy will start at Forest Lake on Brisbane’s southside and travel along the Logan and Gateway motorways to the Redcliffe Showgrounds, where thousands are expected to turn out for a family fun day and car show.

Transurban Queensland will provide traffic management support to ensure the safe movement of the large convoy of trucks, utes, cars and bikes travelling along the go via network as part of the event.

We’re also delighted to be covering the cost of all rides at the family fun day, ensuring families can enjoy a range of great free activities.

Sponsorship of the annual Convoy for Kids event is part of Transurban Queensland’s commitment to support social initiatives and events that benefit the communities in which we operate.

Tolling resumes following Pacific Motorway incident

4 August 2017

Tolling has now resumed in both directions along the Logan Motorway and Gateway Extension Motorway following today’s hazardous material incident on the Pacific Motorway.

Tolls suspended during Pacific Motorway incident

4 August 2017

Following the hazardous material incident on the Pacific Motorway this morning at Loganholme, tolls will be suspended from 10:45am in both directions at the eastern end of the Logan Motorway (Loganlea toll point) and the southern end of the Gateway Extension Motorway (Kuraby toll point) to provide an alternative route for motorists.

Customers’ toll tags will still beep when they travel underneath a tolling point, however tolls will not be charged during this time.

Once the accident has been cleared and the diversion removed, normal tolling will resume.

New proposal set to reduce congestion on the Logan Motorway

28 October 2015

Congestion black spots on the Logan Motorway and Gateway Extension could be eliminated following the Queensland Government’s decision to progress Transurban Queensland’s proposal to deliver vital upgrades.

The proposed $450m project includes upgrades to congested interchanges at Beaudesert Road/Mt Lindesay Highway and Wembley Road, widening parts of the Gateway Extension Motorway and constructing new south-facing ramps at Compton Road.

While the announcement does not commit the parties to the project, Transurban Queensland will now partner with the State Government to develop a final business case, select a preferred contractor as well as undertaking community and stakeholder engagement.

Transurban Queensland Group General Manager Wes Ballantine said the significant infrastructure project would deliver a safer, more efficient motorway and drive jobs and economic growth for Queensland.

“The project proposal includes interchange upgrades at key congestion and crash hot spots on the Logan Motorway, widening parts of the Gateway Extension Motorway and constructing new south-facing ramps at Compton Road,” Mr Ballantine said.

“The project will deliver a safer and more efficient motorway network by relieving local traffic congestion, reducing travel times and enhancing connectivity with other major road networks,” he said.

“The project will generate more than $1.2 billion in economic benefits for Queenslanders and support more than 1,300 jobs throughout the life of the project.”

In just over a decade traffic volumes on the Logan Motorway have doubled with an 800% increase in commercial vehicles, largely due to the strong population and employment growth to the south-west of Brisbane.

“There is a compelling need for action to keep traffic moving in this region and to enhance safety for motorists through better designed roads,” Mr Ballantine said.

“We will work with the Queensland Government to identify and investigate possible funding solutions. The proposal does not envisage any changes to car tolls,” he said.

The proposed scope for the project has been released. The project is expected to be delivered with no private land acquisition, no new land disturbance and with the potential to rehabilitate and give back elements of the existing corridor for community use.

Subject to receiving final government approval, construction is expected to begin in 2016 and be completed by early 2019.

Legacy Way tunnel now open to traffic

26 June 2015

Legacy Way tunnel now open to traffic

Brisbane’s highly anticipated Legacy Way tunnel has officially opened to traffic, providing motorists with a more convenient and quicker journey from the western suburbs to the inner northern suburbs and beyond.

Transurban Queensland Group General Manager Wes Ballantine said Legacy Way delivered the critical connection between the inner northern suburbs and the western suburbs of Brisbane and beyond.

“Legacy Way makes a valuable addition to the broader go via network, joining the Gateway Motorway, Logan Motorway, Go Between Bridge and Clem7,” he said.

“Using Legacy Way, it will take just 4 minutes to get from the Western Freeway at Toowong to the ICB at Kelvin Grove – saving around 14 minutes and almost halving travel times between the Centenary Bridge and the ICB.”

Mr Ballantine said Legacy Way also provides motorists with travel time certainty by enabling them to avoid seven sets of traffic lights, major roundabouts as well as bumper-to-bumper traffic on Coronation Drive and Milton Road.

“To provide motorists with a positive first experience of the Legacy Way, a discounted toll period will be offered for the majority of motorists until May 2016,” he said.

Until 15 November 2015, motorcycles will be tolled $1.50 and privately registered cars just $3.00. A second discount period will then run from 16 November 2015 until 1 May 2016, when motorcycles will be tolled $1.95 and privately registered cars $3.90.

Named in honour of Australia’s service men and women, one cent from every toll collected from the tunnel will be donated to Legacy, a charity that cares for the families of Australian veterans.

“We are proud that these proceeds will be donated to a charity that cares for the families of Australian veterans, it’s a fantastic outcome for the community,” Mr Ballantine said.
